A bike ride for charity might not seem all that out of the ordinary. But Kevin Gerrie from Glasgow has just cycled about 1300 miles all the way to Pollença in Majorca. He has raised more than £9000 for four charities, including the Neurosciences Foundation.

A long-time supporter of the Neurosciences Foundation, he completed the challenge in memory of his father, Chas, who passed away recently.

Kevin works for KMG Consultants and is also managing director of Sport Ecosse Events. Although he organises cycling holidays across Europe, on this occasion Kevin cycled unsupported carrying all his own equipment throughout the long and arduous trip. Kevin was accompanied on the ride by his friend and Sport Ecosse colleague Andy Taylor.

Kevin said: “My Dad helped me with various cycling events across Europe for 10 years or so. On this adventure, if carrying all my kit didn’t make the ride tough enough, our great British weather conspired to be at its wettest and windiest when we started out. But we made it in the end, averaging over 100 miles a day.”

Professor Dave Wyper, a Trustee of the Neurosciences Foundation and Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee, said: “We are incredibly grateful that the Neurosciences Foundation is one of the charities that Kevin was supporting. It will help us to continue to support Scottish research into brain disorders.”

The other charities to benefit were St Columba’s Hospice, who cared for Kevin’s father Chas in his own home; New Ways which supports among other things critical water and education projects in Turkana in Kenya and the well-known Beatson Cancer Charity which has a huge impact on cancer patients throughout the west of Scotland.
